FRANKLIN COUNTY — Since 2002, Vermont’s population has plateaued. Today we’re seeing the repercussions. 

Police officers across Franklin County feel unsupported, and they’re looking for resources to meet the demands that come with higher crime rates. The Vermont Department of Taxes is forecasting an 18.5% increase in the education tax rate, citing a double-digit increase in school spending due to inflation, insurance rate hikes and new capital projects. At Northwestern Counseling and Support Services – Franklin County’s largest human services nonprofit – one in six jobs are left unfilled. Read more…
