An Independent School Supporting Academic, Behavioral, and Clinical Growth
Soar Learning Center is approved by Vermont’s Agency of Education as an independent school. The program provides comprehensive academic, special education, behavioral, and clinical services to children and adolescents in grades K-12. Soar Learning Center is part of the Early Childhood and School Based Services division at Northwestern Counseling & Support Services.
The primary goal of the program is to provide students with the academic, social, and interpersonal skills necessary to be successful in a traditional school setting and in their community. It achieves this through a multidisciplinary team of teachers, special educators, behavior interventionists, home/school coordinators, and clinicians working together to foster a safe and supportive culture of learning and personal growth.
School hours are from 8:15 AM to 2:50 PM Monday through Thursday, and 8:15 to 12:30 PM on Friday. Soar Learning Center also provides transportation services, social skills/wellness groups, vocational support and education and on-site nursing. Students are provided breakfast, lunch, and snacks during the school day. The school provides a full educational experience for students offering courses in core academic subjects as well as a variety of class electives.
In addition to the 180-day school calendar, Soar Learning Center provides an extended school year program in the summer that is designed to maintain or enhance the academic and socio-emotional gains achieved by students during the regular school year. The experiential learning activities provided during the extended school year, also includes the opportunity for high school students to participate in vocational training activities including job tours, potential employment.
