Youth Mental Health First Aid Training<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

\ntraining for community members<\/span><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

 <\/span><\/em><\/strong>St. Albans,
\nVT – Mental health problems in youth are common.  In fact, half of all
\nmental health disorders show first signs before a person turns fourteen years
\nold, and three quarters of mental health disorders begin before age
\ntwenty-four.  Unfortunately, less than 20% of children and adolescents
\nwith diagnosable mental health problems receive the treatment they need.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/span>Would you
\nknow how to recognize the signs of a mental illness in a young person? 
\nWould you know how to respond if you did?  What if there was something you
\ncould do to help youth in your community? <\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/span>Northwestern
\nCounseling & Support Services (NCSS) is presenting the Youth Mental Health
\nFirst Aid (YMHFA) which is an 8 hour public education program that introduces
\nadult participants to the unique risk factors and warning signs of mental
\nhealth problems in adolescents.  YMHFA builds understanding of the
\nimportance of early intervention, and teaches individuals how to help an
\nadolescent in crisis or experiencing a mental health challenge. Youth Mental
\nHealth First Aid is an interactive training using role-playing and simulations
\nto demonstrate how to assess a mental health crisis; select interventions and
\nprovide initial help; and connect young people to professional, peer, social,
\nand self-help care.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/span>NCSS is
\npresenting ongoing Youth Mental Health First Aid trainings to community
\nmembers, educators, nurses, law enforcement, foster parents, and faith
\ncommunities.  To sign up for our upcoming community training see the
