Being homeless during a pandemic\u00a0has compounded the challenges individuals and families face when they lose their home, but\u00a0community efforts across the State are\u00a0making a difference.<\/p>\n<p>J, a 57-year-old man\u00a0was homeless\u00a0after losing his job due to COVID and his housing after a messy divorce, causing him to couch surf, which wasn\u2019t safe in the pandemic.\u00a0The first step in getting back on his feet was to access housing in a hotel\u00a0last spring.\u00a0\u201cOnce I got into the\u00a0motel it\u00a0wasn\u2019t too long before everyone stepped in to be sure I was taken care of. It took me a couple of weeks to actually ask for help, but it helped that I saw someone daily for temperature checks and food delivery\u201d.
