{"id":647,"date":"2021-03-05T17:37:33","date_gmt":"2021-03-05T17:37:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ncssinc.org\/news\/?p=647"},"modified":"2021-03-25T15:19:27","modified_gmt":"2021-03-25T15:19:27","slug":"taking-vermonts-mental-health-services-one-step-further-with-peer-supports","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ncssinc.org\/news\/taking-vermonts-mental-health-services-one-step-further-with-peer-supports\/","title":{"rendered":"Taking Vermont&#8217;s Mental Health Services One Step Further with Peer Supports"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>VTDigger is excited to work with Vermont Care Partners to promote the much needed services of its sixteen respective member agencies which, <strong>includes NCSS.<\/strong> They also understand how important it is for our elected officials to know how to support the needs of Vermonters.<\/p>\n<p>This thirteen week series is a collaboration produced by members of the Vermont Care Partners statewide network of sixteen non-profit, community-based agencies providing mental health, substance use and intellectual and developmental disability support.<\/p>\n<p>Below is the seventh installment of the series from Health Care &amp; Rehabilitation Services of Southeastern Vermont (HCRS) focusing on the importance of peer supports for people struggling with mental health and\/or substance use and their recovery.<span style=\"font-size: 1.8rem;\">\u00a0 \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>TAKING VERMONT\u2019S MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES ONE STEP FURTHER WITH PEER SUPPORTS<\/h2>\n<p><em><strong>People with Real Life Experience Provide Greater Understanding &amp; Empathy<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>We\u2019re learning more about how to effectively support individuals with mental health and\/or substance use issues<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Peer support is an essential part of supporting Vermonters who are experiencing emotional distress or struggling with their relationship to substances. To be able to fully understand and empathize with what another person is experiencing requires someone who has had similar experiences.
