{"id":635,"date":"2021-02-22T17:04:25","date_gmt":"2021-02-22T17:04:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ncssinc.org\/news\/?p=635"},"modified":"2021-03-05T17:38:07","modified_gmt":"2021-03-05T17:38:07","slug":"eldercare-critical-for-mental-health-of-older-vermonters","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ncssinc.org\/news\/eldercare-critical-for-mental-health-of-older-vermonters\/","title":{"rendered":"ElderCare: critical for mental health of older Vermonters"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>VTDigger is excited to work with Vermont Care Partners to promote the much needed services of its sixteen respective member agencies which, <strong>includes NCSS.<\/strong> They also understand how important it is for our elected officials to know how to support the needs of Vermonters.<\/p>\n<p>This thirteen week series is a collaboration produced by members of the Vermont Care Partners statewide network of sixteen non-profit, community-based agencies providing mental health, substance use and intellectual and developmental disability support.<\/p>\n<p>Below is the fifth installment of the series from the Counseling Service of Addison County (CSAC) focusing on addressing the mental health of older Vermonters through their ElderCare program.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>ElderCare: critical for mental health of older Vermonters<\/h2>\n<p><em><strong>Social distancing<\/strong><\/em><em>\u00a0<\/em>is an expectation we have employed to ensure the community\u2019s health during the global pandemic. However, effects from social distancing can slip into another, more severe level with unhealthy, physical\/mental health consequences.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cIsolated for far too long\u201d \u2013 and that\u2019s not new<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Social isolation<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0is a nearly or fully complete lack of contact between an individual and society. Social isolation has been linked to poor physical health, such as heart disease and high-blood pressure, as well as mental health concerns like loneliness, depression, and suicidal thoughts.
