Controller

NCSS, located in St. Albans, VT, is seeking a Controller to lead accounting and annual audit functions for a $50M mental health agency with four primary agency divisions, as well as oversee reporting and compliance with external entities including the State of Vermont, the Federal Government, and other granting organizations.

Qualified applicants will possess a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting with a minimum of 5 years of direct accounting experience, preferably in a financial role in human services. Candidates must exhibit fluency in GL/AR/AP and budgeting software. Strong analytical skills and advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel are required. Experience with federal, state, and private/foundation grants, as well as Medicaid and other healthcare payment models a plus.

This position will report to the CFO, with some supervisory oversight for a collaborative, talented, and cross-trained team of 5-6 individuals. An entrepreneurial mindset to seek out opportunities to improve, streamline, and reinvent work processes will be critical given the integration of a new Netsmart EMR system, implementation of real-time data analytics through a KPI dashboard, an anticipated implementation of a new ERP/accounting system in the coming years, and digitization of AR and AP workflows and record keeping.
